The Long Play (LP) Vinyl Arrives!

Today is a big day in the “Vinyl is Final” world, as it’s the day that 33 1/3 rpm records debuted. This format allowed for longer recordings (around 30 minutes per side).

The LP (long play) would be a significant technological innovation for the coming “rock ‘n roll” era that relied upon “singles” to push a record sale. The more “singles,” the more vinyl was sold.

DO YOU REMEMBER WHAT YOUR FIRST VINYL RECORD WAS? Mine was “Crazy Horses” by the Osmonds (1972). Don’t laugh! It was an album that rocked with hard guitar riffs and bluesy tunes. In fact, I’m going to listen to it now. ;)
